1769 First notion of Absinthe as "Bon Extrait dŽAbsinthe" in a newspaper ad.

1797 Dr. Pierre Ordinaire starts producing Absinthe.

1798 First destillery of Absinthe in Couvet/Switzerland.

1805 Foundation of Pernod Fils in Pontarlier/France

1830 Conquest of Algeria by the French. The boom of Absinthe begins.

1850 Louis Pernod dies.

1858 Baudelaire meets Manet. Both are great Absinthe friends.

1859 Manet draws the Absinthe drinker.

1871 Begin of the friendship between Verlaine and Rimbaud.

1873 Verlaine shoots Rimbaud.

1876 Degas draws LŽAbsinthe.

1901 The Pernod-Factory in Pontarlier burns down.

1905 Swissman J. Lanfray murders his family. Belgium prohibits Absinthe. The company Pernod Fils restarts Absinthe production.

1908 Prohibition of Absinthe passed by legislation in Switzerland, which is enacted in 1910.

1912 Absinthe prohibition in the USA.

1915 Absinthe prohibition in France

1920 Hill starts production of Absinthe in Bohemia.

1923 Absinthe prohibition in Germany.

1981 Legislation in Germany: 10 mg / L Thujone are legal.

1998 EU legislation. Absinthe fabrication and import allowed again.
